Kathleen & Peg Hurson

Kathleen and Peg Hurson are a mother and daughter team who’s journey to the House started in Spokane.  This is where Kathleen's son and daughter-in-law had a premature baby, named Timothy.  Timothy was flown across the state of Washington to Spokane, where the family was fortunate to stay at the Ronald McDonald House.

Here in Rhode Island, Peg was upset that there was little she could do to help her brother and sister-in-law.  Then she decided to volunteer at the House in Providence.  Peg started as a weekly volunteer.  Now she volunteers each Friday with her Mom, Kathleen.  They also volunteer for a 24-hour shift each month.

Peg enjoys many aspects of the House, but what she likes best is seeing the change in resident families.  "They come in shell shocked and gradually learn to laugh and then get excited to go home."  Kathleen remembers the feeling she had when she learned that Timothy was strong enough to go home.

Timothy is now in middle school and he is doing well.  The Spokane House holds a special place in the Hurson's hearts and Providence House is near and dear to Kathleen and Peg.
